We are Europe’s leading multisector provider of

test solutions.

We design, manufacture, service and repair electronic test equipment for the entire life cycle of critical applications for the Military, Aerospace, Space and other civil markets. A recognised systems integrator, we combine third party diagnostic equipment and software systems with our own product development to provide a fully-optimised one-stop solution.

Our involvement in the systems we provide doesn’t stop at delivery. The long-term support we provide, whether through maintenance and service contracts, upgrades, and obsolescence management is what sets us aside.

About us

We are a Franco-British high-technology Test Solutions business with more than 70 years pedigree.

We take pride in being the fastest-growing specialist test consultancy in the UK, offering independent advice to industry leaders for the implementation of modern and cost-efficient winning test strategies regardless of their make-or-buy policy in test.

A global company and the clear leader in Europe, Spherea Group has already successfully delivered more than 4,500 ATEs (Automatic Test Equipment) and 15,000 projects whether as part of Airbus Group or now as an independent business.

Borne out of a merger between Racal Instruments UK (1950) and part of the test department of Airbus in Toulouse (1965), we are proud of our long-standing international legacy that has been built through the ages.

Innovation

Test systems come in all shapes and sizes, from simple test boxes and harnesses to highly-complex, multi-bay test racks. Although there will always be cases where a bespoke solution is required, wherever possible we take a modular approach based on industry-standard PXI architecture which meets the currently identified need whilst allowing for expansion further down the road.

Discover More

A suite of services ranges from providing specialist advice to government and industry leaders on test standards in the military domain to performing full audits of your existing test capability and recommending new approaches based on best practice, performance requirements and budget constraints.

Test system development, especially when it is run alongside product development, brings several layers of complexity to the process. Whilst there is no silver bullet to counter all issues and not all outcomes can be predicted, our dedicated programme management division brings an adaptive and flexible approach to address the complexities, uncertainties and challenges surrounding each project.

We know how to bring new life to old systems without compromising on compliance and ensure that commercial sensitivities are managed through a careful balance of value for money and technical assurance. Our in-house suite of tools can be easily adapted to your legacy test system to allow for seamless integration of new hardware without compromising the functionality of the legacy system.

Discover More

From fixture design and software development to qualification and production testing, our team of engineers can work with you to develop, update, support and use your test means. We leverage our group’s global footprint and industry-specific knowledge to provide you with a full suite of test engineering expertise whether remotely from our engineering centre of excellence or embedded into your team.

Discover More

From the engineering development phase, where our U-test system simulation tool creates a digital twin, to production, where our Dyna test bench provides qualification and production testing for multiple LRUs and to our signature ATEC system which supports a huge range of product lines, we have the right product line for your needs. Alongside these lie a range of value add options such as our electrical harness testing solution (WIZE®) and a full suite of RF products.

Discover More

From our first fully analogue ATEs which used early transistors & Fortran programming, to the introduction of the first PC, floppy disks, Ethernet, VXI, PCI, PXI, PXIe and on to modern ultra high speed ATE building on Hardware in the Loop & System integration benches, we have been there every step of the way. Our well-funded R&D programme ensures we will remain at the forefront of innovation and development.

Our team

Our people are our biggest assets. Many engineers have been with our business for more than 20 years, bringing a level of test systems expertise and, in particular, a knowledge of legacy test systems which cannot be found in any other independent organisation. They offer immense experience, enthusiasm and passion for engineering and delight in resolving our customers' challenges whatever their complexity. We actively encourage them to continuously develop their practical and academic skills as we acknowledge this leads to greater personal fulfilment and resultant customer satisfaction.

This longevity of service is further borne out in our exceptionally low employee turnover (<3%) which leads to customers coming back to us time and again, resulting in a 100% customer retention rate over the last 5 years. We can safely say that we are on the right track.

We have entered a period of sustained growth and are seeking enthusiastic and creative people to grow our capability. Find out more about our open positions.

Title Sponsor for university project

We are delighted to be sponsoring six Engineering Master's students at The University of Leicester in their project for the IMechE’s UAS Challenge for 2023 (https://www.imeche.org/events/challenges/uas-challenge).

Launched in 2014 with the key objectives of developing professional engineers and inspiring the next generation, teams of undergraduates from all over the world take part in the annual UAS Challenge. Starting each October, student teams undertake a full design and build cycle of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) with a maximum take off mass of 10kg to undertake specific mission objectives, culminating in a final fly-off event in June the following year. The system will be required to operate automatically, performing a series of tasks such as area search, navigating waypoints, accurately dropping the Aid Package and returning to base via a defined route.
